The Quoizel Company came into being in 1930, when an enterprising young man named Michael Chaikin started manufacturing one-of-a-kind table lamps for sale. This venture began in a tiny store in Manhattan, but eventually grew to be a large organization called Quoizel, the makers of the highly successful Quoizel wall sconces.

The company came to be called Quoizel because a close friend of Michael, who studied astrology keenly, suggested this name. The name has high significance as it stands for the particular combination in which various celestial stars and planets were during the time when the company was being started.

Started modestly in a small shop, the Quoizel Company now has its headquarters in Charleston, SC and occupies a large building of 500,000 square feet, which is equipped with top-of-the-line machinery for the manufacture of the many different Quoizel products, including Quoizel wall sconces.
