Various Types Of Bath Sconces

A right combination of general and task lighting is required for a bathroom. General lighting fixtures help to illuminate the entire area of the bathroom, while task lighting fixtures are typically used around the mirror so as to provide lighting for shaving, brushing, grooming etc. Bath sconces can be used to accomplish both these types of lighting.

Ambient lighting in the bathroom can be achieved by using large bathroom sconces. When choosing a sconce for your bathroom, make sure it is wet rated so that it does not get spoilt by humidity or direct water. A bathroom wall sconce can also be used effectively to illuminate a tub or shower enclosure. Such sconces should ideally have enclosed downlights that are damp rated. The down light ensures that there is adequate illumination in the shower stall, and since it is enclosed there is no danger of it getting damaged by the water spraying in the shower.

Bath Wall SconceAnother area where bath room sconces look great is around the mirror in your bathroom. When using a sconce for mirror lighting, you need to ensure that there is no glare from the lights nor are the sconce lights casting any shadows. This can be ensured by placing the sconces to the side of the mirror. In this location, the sconces will provide the maximum illumination for your face; and since the light will be coming from the side and front, rather than behind, there will be no concern about any shadows either.

The height of bath sconces at the side of the mirror should be about 5 feet from the floor. At this height, the sconce will most likely be in perfect alignment with your face, which is where it should be. However, this is just an average estimation. To get the precise location of the sconce, you should stand in front of your bath mirror and measure the height where your face reaches. Your bath sconce should then be placed at this very height.

Of the various types of sconces available, porcelain bathroom sconces are among the best selections for a bathroom.
