Versatile Lighting With Swing Arm Wall Sconces
As the name suggests, swing arm wall sconces feature arms that can swing. These arms can usually swing to the right side as well as to the left. In addition to being able to be turned to either side, the swing arms typically have a joint (or two), where they are folded. When extended at the joints, the swing arm opens up completely, thus enabling you to take the light source (lamp, bulb, or spot light) few feet away from the wall.
Swing arm sconces with a single joint can usually be extended up to 1 - 1 ½ feet from the wall, whereas those that have two joints can be extended for as much as 2 - 2 ½ from the wall. As mentioned previously, this helps you to obtain accent lighting as well as task lighting from a single fixture. Let us see how.
When the swing arm wall sconce is in its un-extended position, the lamp lies close to the wall, thus providing general lighting or accent lighting for any piece of art or wall hanging. When the arms of this same sconce are extended fully, the lamp will be positioned 1 - 2 feet from the wall. Thus it can easily be positioned over an arm chair, over a work table, or even near your bed, where you can use the sconce lights as reading lights or for other tasks.
Swing arm wall sconces are available in all kinds of finishes such as brass finish, gold, silver, nickel etc so that they can match all kinds of home décor. You also have a choice of metal shades or glass shades with your swing arm sconces.
